Hostos Design Lab
Last summer I had the privilege to lead the Hostos Design Lab alongside designer Sarah Sandman, a week-long intensive excursion and exploration that pushes the boundaries of our day-to-day learning. We brought 11 students from the Hostos Community College Media Design Program in the Bronx to an Upstate New York workshop called Arts, Letters and Numbers. We arrived for the final week of 8 total where workshop goers were exploring the theme of "chora" through lectures, collaborative projects and individual art practice. We were so thrilled to watch our students embrace the unknown and, in the sprit of ALN, dive into the challenge of figuring out "what is a chora?" through their own projects and a collaborative group video piece.
On April 30th there will be a screening of their video piece plus more work from students from the 3D design class. Join us at Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College from 5-7pm. If you can't make it to the celebration, be sure to check out the video piece below which incorporates the work of our students and is itself a work that responds to the idea of space called a chora that we experienced last summer.
